Centre-Subnational Relationship: Governor Adeleke Canvasses Respect for the Constitution

Centre-Subnational Relationship: Governor Adeleke Canvasses Respect for the Constitution

Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun state has canvassed for the protection of the rights of the subnational governments as a deliberate strategy to deepen democratic practices and sustenance of democracy.

Delivering an address at the South West Summit organised by Afenifere in partnership with the new Dawn Commission in Akure, Governor Adeleke represented by the Deputy Governor, Prince Kola Adewusi said party differences should not warrant unfair treatment of any subnational government, stressing that collaboration for development should be the operating norms.

Recalling the ever readiness of the Osun state government for partnership with federal agencies within the framework of the constitution, the governor pushes for apolitical positive interaction between national and subnational entities even as he urges corrective lessons where rights and privileges of the federating partners have been violated.

The governor who said Osun should have hosted the summit said the Osun scenario manifests a subsisting infraction and trampling on the expressed rights of the subnational entity by the national authority, informing the audience that “There is an ongoing wilful breach of the constitution to deprive a subnational entity its due rights simply because it does not belong to the same party with the ruling party at the centre.

The Governor spoke further: “If we are to study and review the state of engagements between the centre and the states, Osun therefore provides extensive data on how not to treat a subnational entity in a truly democratic environment.

“Permit me to note that Osun right from the inception of my administration in 2022, designed a robust engagement agenda with the centre. I issued a standing instruction to all ministries and agencies to treat all correspondence from the federal government or its agencies under 24 hours. I further directed robust attendance of Osun state officials at all federal events.

“All requests for data from federal levels are responded to within 48 hours even as Osun is deliberately involved in all peer review any federal agency organises. We set out as a government to deepen federal – state partnership across the real sector of the economy as well as in the soft areas including fiscal governance.

“From 2022 till date, Osun holds the records of constant participation and mention in critical federal reports. Interestingly, our state won quite a number of medals in national sectoral review organised by the Federal government. I am happy to announce that our state is ever ready to host federal sectoral events. From 2022, we have hosted more than 12 of such events, all in our bid to demonstrate willingness for partnership with the centre.

“In the area of real sector collaboration, our government took up reconstruction of some federal roads. Up till date, we are still struggling to get a refund. We sought to facilitate the take off of many federal abandoned projects; we met brick walls. Our olive branch to enhance collaboration is clouded by political partisanship actively promoted by operatives of the ruling political party at the centre. We discovered over time that partisan consideration has become the yardstick for federal interactions with Osun state, a development that threatens to fracture intergovernmental relations.

“Distinguished scholars and guests may want to note that Osun stands in a unique position among the south western states on the subject of this conference. Osun is the ancestral home of the head of the Federal Government. We have party differences with the party controlling the centre. Even with the best of positive reach out, it is sad to note that some operatives of the ruling federal party have adopted an adversarial approach to Osun State.

“Federal projects and initiatives are now being routed through party structures instead of Osun state government machinery especially. Nominations and access to federal opportunities are channelled through party organisations with official state structures deliberately excluded. The dynamics of interaction between national and subnational entities is not only undermined but threatened.

“A troubling dimension was introduced earlier this year when the rule of law was replaced with the rule of the thumb. The issue here relates to handling of the state Security and local government matters. It is trite in every democratic order that rule of law within the ambit of the constitution is the regulatory framework for wielding of state powers.

“In the case of Osun, federal power is being applied outside the regulation of the constitution as the public have known since the beginning of this year. Politicisation of federal power application poses serious threats to peaceful and productive Intergovernmental relations.

“It would interest the audience to know that in Osun state ,some security agencies openly protect and defend ruling party operatives even when they act in ways and manners against the law and the constitution. In Osun today, federal party officials boast of powers to deploy security apparatus to witch-hunt state officials. On many occasions, officials of the federal ruling party have openly declared their readiness to hijack the state whether the people voted for them or not. Worst still, they have security cover when making such provocative declarations.

“As if that is not enough, the Osun local government fund was seized without any court order from earlier this year. Duly elected local government officials were not allowed to assume office and those sacked by a subsisting court order were forced on the local government secretariats by federal power and security apparatus. All the facts are in the public domain.

“I cite all above details to shed light on impunity and abuse of power as a major impediment to a virile national and subnational collaboration. As a government Osun state has demonstrated the willingness and readiness for productive partnership and interaction. Despite hostile posturing, Osun is always a top participant in federal peer review of the 36 states. In our engagements with the centre, several federal agencies have recognised Osun’ s positive records in governance delivery.

Osun won the first position in the area of access to primary health care across the South West. The challenge was organised by the Federal ministry of Health. Osun’ debt has been reduced by over 40 percent according to a review by the Federal Debt Management Office. Osun’s ranking has moved from 33rd to 7th position in national examination ranking according to the federal agency, NECO. Osun state was recognised as a role model state in the school feeding programme by the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian services. Our state infrastructure deficit has reduced from 80 percent in 2022 to about 40 percent. In tech innovation, Osun is today the first state to domesticate the Federal Startup Act. In climate change ,Osun was just rated number 6 in the federation for proactive actions on climate change governance.

“It is our position that the South West must elevate power applications beyond partisan considerations. There must be a strategic outlook having development of the region as a priority irrespective of governing parties at subnational level. We must embark on the development of a circular cargo railway project for the South West in partnership with the Federal Government. The DAWN Commission has done a fantastic job in that direction.

“South West must additionally develop a network of dry ports across the zone, all linked with the circular railway project. Our region must in addition leverage on federal support to develop agro industrialisation with each state adopting a product in which it has relative strength. For security, we must enhance and strengthen Amotekun instead of current efforts to demonise the body based on partisan considerations”, the governor told the gathering.

Why We are Upgrading Ile Ife Infrastructure —Governor Adeleke

Why We are Upgrading Ile Ife Infrastructure —Governor Adeleke

● Links Fund Withholding to Opposition Plot to Stop Infra Projects

● Tasks Contractors, Ministry Officials to be Alive to Responsibilities

● Condemns Abandonment of Many Old Projects at Ife

Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has justified his administration's upgrading of Infrastructures at Ile Ife and other major towns of the state on the ground that improved infrastructure fast-tracks economic developments.

Speaking today amidst rousing reception at the ancient city of Ile Ife while inspecting the Lagere Flyover bridge and other projects, the governor who decried the neglect of Ile Ife and abandonment of several projects by previous administration and individuals said the cultural capital of Yoruba people deserves the best roads and other infrastructures.

The governor who accused the opposition of deliberately withholding Osun local government allocation to stop the completion of critical projects by his administration vowed to push ahead with all the projects, saying Ile Ife infra projects are designed to transform the state into an economic hub and a tourism capital of the South West.

Warning contractors and officials to be up and doing on various ongoing projects, the governor said his administration has broken the jinx of under-development for Ile Ife and other towns in the state, vowing that the opposition's plot to stop Osun development will not materialise.

The governor spoke further: “I am elated to see rapid progress already recorded in our unprecedented moves to modernise and upgrade Ile Ife, the cultural capital of Yoruba people. Many doubted the need for our ambitious approach to the development of Ile Ife and other ancient towns in Osun state. We told them we must think big, we must aim very high and we must seek and deliver the best of infrastructure and services to our people.

“We decided to make history by breaking from the history of abandoned projects whose funds were diverted into private pockets. We rejected private enrichment at the expense of our people. The people of Ile Ife remember the many tales of abandoned projects and diverted funds in this community. Our administration opted for the people’s way; Osun money must serve the Osun people. That mantra of state money for state development is manifesting at Ile Ife, Ilesa, Osogbo, Ede, Ila Orangun, Iwo and other parts of the state.

“Today, the Ile Ife flyover with adjacent dualisation is nearing completion. We have shamed those who doubted our sincerity. We have ridiculed those who think the fund is for diversion and self – enrichment as they had done in the past. We broke the jinx by launching and realising this upgrading of our cultural capital.

“Some critics with low governance ambition had dared us and declared that Ile Ife needed no flyover bridge. We ask: why did you hate Ile Ife so much? Why do you think so low of our ancestral capital? Why must Ile Ife be kept under perpetual state of under- development?

“We rejected the path of those who denied this ancient city of a dualised road since 1999. We fulfilled the wishes and aspirations of Ile Ife sons and daughters who rightly affirmed that top notch infrastructure is an engine for economic growth.

“This flyover is strategically located at an economic nerve center of Osun East, connecting Osun West, Ijesahland and Ondo state through Garage Olode. An economic hub is being created through this iconic flyover bridge.

“Aside from the making of an economic hub, our administration is conscious of the tourism potentials and importance of Ile Ife to millions of Yoruba people at home and in the diaspora. In our creative economy agenda, Ile Ife occupies a prime place. The cradle of Yoruba nation thus deserves mass infra upgrade to support our vision of a cultural capital drawing multi billion dollar tourism opportunities in the near future.

“Our administration is not only building the flyover and the dualised roads, several internal roads have been reconstructed here at Ile Ife. Our deliveries are visible at Ile-Ife, Modakeke, Ifetedo, Yakooyo, Akinlalu, and Edunabon. Completed road projects includes Iredunmi–Oke Ijan Road, Oriyangi–St. John’s Road, Manchester–Igboya Road, Olurin–Omi Okun Road, Ife City Benediction Road, London Street–Iremo Road, Agric Road Opa; Akinlalu Junction to Town Junction; Magistrate Court–Itamerin Road; Ogbingbin–Garage Isale; RCM Road Ifetedo; Modakeke’s AP Junction to Alapata Road and Cele Road to Ajape Junction are shining examples of equity in governance, while Moore Babaakodi road, ongoing Edunabon–Tonkere road among others are nearing completion.

“And to those critics who were asking us to move faster, we call their attention to the fact that we are less than three years old in government. Almost a year of the three years is taken up by deliberate onslaught by the opposition to disrupt Osun development through blocking of funding and destabilisation plots.

“Almost N100 billion of Osun fund is unjustly seized in a bid to stop the completion of Ile Ife flyover, Ilesa township dualisation, Iwo township road dualisation, Ila Orangun township road dualisation, reconstruction of Iwo-Osogbo road and the Lameco flyover bridge among others. The opposition have unfortunately chosen to play politics with the urgent need of our people to exit from decades of under-development.

“Our royal fathers and good people of Osun, we will not allow the evil plan of the opposition to come to reality. Our government will complete all ongoing major projects. We will not succumb to dark forces; hell bent on blocking Osun development. On behalf of the Osun people, we will continue to pursue the rule of law to secure our rights within the Federation.

“I urge various contractors handling our various infrastructure projects to be up and doing. I task them to show commitment to delivering on the awarded contracts. I expect those contractors to maintain presence and ensure memorability of the roads while the contract lasts.

“Our administration will not hesitate to terminate any non-performing contractor. Our people expect so much from the administration and we would not allow slack in the implementation process.

“I task the officials of the ministry of Works to strengthen their monitoring of ongoing projects. The public should be regularly updated on the state of each project. Project implementation reports should henceforth be issued on a monthly basis”, the governor was quoted as saying.

The Governor was earlier received by leaders, members and supporters of Ife PDP, led by Prof. Wale Oladipo and was accompanied to the palace of Ooni of Ife, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, for a courtesy visit.

In a continued demonstration of people-centered governance and compassionate leadership, the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Transportation has successfully organized a Free Transportation Programme for Ife indigenes schooling in Ekiti State.

This thoughtful initiative, conducted under the *IRE DE 4 IMOLE  INITIATIVE*, aligns with the broader vision of His Excellency, Senator (Dr.) Nurudeen Jackson Ademola Adeleke, the Executive Governor of Osun State, who remains committed to easing the burdens of citizens and promoting youth welfare across the state.

The free transportation exercise, which recently concluded with great success, was designed to support students traveling back to their various campuses in Ekiti State for the new academic session.

It stands as a testament to Governor Adeleke’s dedication to youth empowerment and accessibility, ensuring that no student is left stranded or hindered by transportation challenges during this crucial period.

Speaking on the purpose of the programme, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Transportation, Hon. (Prince) Adedayo Adewale, emphasized that the gesture was not only to show solidarity with students but also to underscore the people-first philosophy of the Adeleke administration.

He noted that under the visionary leadership of Governor Adeleke, the transportation sector in Osun State has been strategically positioned to serve the needs of the people through innovation, inclusivity, and impactful social initiatives.

According to him, the *IRE DE 4 IMOLE  INITIATIVE* was conceptualized as a vehicle to deliver tangible benefits to citizens in diverse forms including education, mobility, welfare, and empowerment.

He further reiterated that the free transportation project was organized to complement the Governor’s developmental strides and to express gratitude for the overwhelming support of the people toward the governor’s second term bid.

The buses, fully sponsored and coordinated by the SSA’s office, conveyed students safely and comfortably to Ekiti State, covering all major routes from Ile-Ife and its environs.

The excitement and appreciation expressed by the beneficiaries highlighted the profound impact of the programme. Many of the students described the initiative as timely and inspiring, especially amid the current economic realities.

The gesture has also been widely commended by community leaders, youth groups, and parents who acknowledged the effort as a reflection of good governance and humane leadership.

They applauded Hon. (Prince) Adedayo Adewale for his proactive and selfless approach to public service, describing him as a worthy representative of Governor Adeleke’s Imole (light) vision.

In his closing remarks, Prince Adewale reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to the continuous success of the Adeleke administration, assuring that the *IRE DE 4 IMOLE  INITIATIVE* would continue to bring impactful programmes that touch lives directly at the grassroots.

He also urged the students to remain good ambassadors of Ile-Ife and Osun State while focusing on academic excellence and moral discipline.

The just-concluded free transportation programme has once again proven that leadership, when anchored on compassion and service, can ignite hope and bridge social gaps. It not only provided practical support for students but also strengthened the bond between the government and the people.

As the light of Imole continues to shine brighter across Osun State, initiatives like this reflect the enduring legacy of care, inclusion, and empowerment championed by Governor Adeleke and his dedicated team.

In Nigeria, the campaign captured hearts and inspired millions of shared moments, strengthening emotional ties between the brand and its consumers. Its return in 2025 marks a renewed commitment by Coca-Cola Nigeria to celebrate individuality, foster connection, and create moments of happiness that bring people together.

We want every bottle shared to represent a story, a smile, and a moment that brings people closer together.”

Don’t Drag Us into Your Mess – Osun PDP Warns APC

Don’t Drag Us into Your Mess – Osun PDP Warns APC

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State has described the misleading statement issued by the oppositon, All Progressives Congress (APC) as a baseless rant from a disorganised party drowning in its own internal crisis. The PDP said Osun people are too politically aware to be deceived by the APC’s sudden cry of foul play, noting that the party should face its self-inflicted confusion rather than dragging the ruling party into it.

Reacting to the release, the party Director of Media, Hon. Hezekiah Oladele Bamiji, said the APC’s accusations were nothing but a desperate cover-up for its ongoing internal implosion. “It is laughable that a party neck-deep in leadership battles and endless factional disputes is accusing the PDP of fabrications. The truth is that the Osun APC is at war with itself, and its frustrated leaders are merely seeking scapegoats to mask their disunity. Their problem is not the PDP, their problem is themselves,” the statement read.

"Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration is too focused on service delivery to be distracted by the noise from a troubled opposition. Our Governor is busy working for the people. Roads are being constructed, health centres are being revitalized, schools are being rehabilitated, and workers are being paid as and when due. While the APC is busy trading blames, the PDP government is busy changing lives. That’s the difference,” the statement continued.

The PDP emphasized that the Adeleke government has earned unprecedented goodwill across Osun because it has restored credibility, accountability, and people’s confidence in government. “From teachers to traders, from pensioners to students, everyone can feel the difference. The people are happy, the economy is reviving, and the public service now enjoys dignity. That’s why Osun people stand solidly with the PDP. We don’t need to fabricate stories, our achievements speak louder than their propaganda,” the statement added.

The party also appealed to journalists and members of the public to verify any information coming from the APC camp before believing or publishing it. "We know their tactics — when they are cornered by their internal chaos, they look for who to blame. The media should not fall for their old trick of lies and deflection. The APC’s crisis is homegrown, and the PDP will not be dragged into it,” the statement cautioned.

HOB reaffirmed the PDP’s commitment to peace, good governance, and unity in Osun State. “We are not at war with anybody. Our mission is to sustain the light of good governance that Governor Ademola Adeleke has rekindled. We will not trade progress for propaganda or development for distraction. Osun people deserve better than APC’s theatrics,” he said.

The statement concluded by assuring Osun people that the PDP will continue to put their welfare first. “We have no time for distractions. We are busy working, and the people can see it. Osun has moved forward under the light of good leadership, and there is no going back. Let the APC fix its problems, the PDP will keep fixing Osun,” the statement concluded.

Ademola Adeleke: Between Adebayo Adeleke's toxicity and the truth

Ademola Adeleke: Between Adebayo Adeleke's toxicity and the truth

By Sarafa Ibrahim

Toxic people, a New York Times best-selling author and speaker, Mandy Hale warned "will pollute everything around them." And looking at Adebayo Adeleke, a one-time commissioner in Osun state, and his virulent approach to the truth, one cannot but agree with Hale's warning. Good enough, the prolific writer prescribed a remedy and that is "Don't hesitate. Fumigate."

This is exactly what this piece is set out to do– to fumigate the brazen untruth that were inherent in a piece: "Adeleke's Renewed Bid to Join APC is Dead on Arrival" authored by Adebayo Adeleke with incontrovertible truth. Let us, for a start, examine the assertion that the incumbent Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has been dismal in terms of performance in education, human development, infrastructure development and security of all the six governors that have presided over the affair of the state.

In examining this assertion by Adebayo, we will need to go back to about three years when Governor Adeleke assumed office and the hopelessness that pervades the state then. As we must all recall, Osun was on the abyss of ruins with years of misrule almost draining life out of the state. Wage debts and pension arrears had accumulated with no hope in sight of repayment while public infrastructures were in a state of total disrepair.

The highlight of the magnitude of the challenges on ground was the audio promotion given to workers by the government which Adebayo Adeleke was an integral part of just as sights of abandoned projects by the Oyetola administration drained hopes of any progress for the people of Osun state. Contrary to the impression that Adebayo Adeleke tried to paint, Governor Adeleke inherited a mess created by the government he served in, yet he has been able to fix them to a large extent.

On education, for instance, Governor Adeleke has invested resources into upgrading the infrastructures of public schools to make them conducive for learning. Before his assumption of office, public school buildings were in a hopeless situation with broken classrooms and lack of furniture, putting the life of students and teachers in jeopardy. So far, a total of 631 classrooms with offices in 125 basic schools have been rehabilitated while 323 new classrooms with offices, hall and laboratories in 96 basic schools have been built. Other infrastructures provided in schools across Osun in two years included thirty-nine new six-holes squatting toilets in 39 basic schools, forty-one boreholes with reticulations in 41 basic schools, thirty motorized deep well water with reticulation and the construction of 30 perimeter fences with metal gate in 30 basic schools. Construction and rehabilitation of schools and related infrastructure in primary and junior schools across the 30 local governments in the state and the area office while the upgrade of EMIS (Educational Management Information System) units in the 31 LGEAs with new laptops and new printers each for effective data collection and data processing for real time school data and information management.

In addition to this, the welfare of teachers is receiving priority under Governor Adeleke. Unlike the experience under the Oyetola administration where promotions without commensurate benefits are derived for teachers, Governor Adeleke did not only cash-backed their promotion but also ensure the implementation of one of the best minimum wage tables in Nigeria for teachers and other workers. It is not surprising that Osun state is doing very well in external examination, moving to sixth in NECO ranking from 31 place it occupied while Adebayo Adeleke's party was at the helms of affairs.

In nearly three years, the Adeleke administration has expended nearly N50 billion on pension benefits, money that is far more than what has been spent by the previous governments, including the one that Adebayo Adeleke was a part of in 12 years. For context, while a total of 2,137 pensioners received bonds in the twelve years of the successive APC administrations, a total of 1,742 pensioners have gotten their bonds under Governor Adeleke in two years. This number is expected to have gone higher by the time beneficiaries in the third year are included.

Beyond this, most unbonded pensioners have been fully paid the half salary owed to them by the APC administration while bonded pensioners and active workers have received more than six months of what was owed to them by the government prior to Adeleke. Every pensioner in Osun state is placed on a full healthcare coverage, relieving the senior citizens of the trouble of managing their health at old age. Osun is the first state in the whole of Nigeria to embark on such expansive healthcare cover for senior citizens, easing not just their worries but ensuring that they are no longer lost to avoidable death due to inability to fund their healthcare.

For human development, Adebayo Adeleke is apparently deluded. Under Governor Adeleke, no fewer than N4 billion was set aside to rejuvenate cooperative societies, which the misgovernance that Adebayo Adeleke was a part of nearly drained life of them. Cooperative societies in each of the 332 political wards were provided funding just as established cooperative bodies have received monetary support to provide capitals for their members. Last year, Governor Adeleke recruited 10,000 Imole Corps and each received a stipend of N30,000– an upward that is more than twice what OYES received under the APC government. Even more, the Adeleke administration employed more than 1,500 Amotekun to reinforce security of the state.

On infrastructure development, it is only those who have chosen to be blind with reality that will contest the monumental strides of Governor Adeleke in about three years. While Adebayo Adeleke may find it hard to point to any infrastructural project undertaken by the administration he served in Iree, where he comes, even as a commissioner, the situation is different now as the Adeleke administration has made government presence felt in that town as we speak. And it is not just Iree, Governor Adeleke has transformed Osun through a massive road construction and this is spread across towns unlike the experience in the past. No local government in the whole of Osun state without a minimum of two kilometres of road constructed so far. Adebayo Adeleke cannot say the same thing happened under the Oyetola administration he served in.

In Oke-Fia, Osogbo, the Adeleke administration is at the verge of delivering a first of its kind 10-span dual lane flyover which will connect with a 2.2 kilometres dual carriageway Old Garage-Lameco also built by it while a four span bridge at Lameco is also under construction. The 10.5 kilometres Osogbo-Ikirun-Ila Odo-Kwara boundary road abandoned by Adebayo Adeleke's government has been completed by Governor Adeleke and serving the people while the third phase of the road that will pass through Inisa is ongoing as we speak.

In Ede, Governor Adeleke has constructed the first dual carriageway for the town while another first dual carriageway in Ilesa is progressing and will soon be completed. In Ile-Ife, the cradle of Yoruba existence, Governor Adeleke is building the first flyover in Lagere just as the administration is building the first dual carriageway in Iwo and Ila Orangun as we speak. It is therefore lame and corrosive on the part of Adebayo Adeleke to suggest that the Adeleke administration is lagging behind in infrastructural development when the reality is that the Governor has turned Osun into a construction site.

Healthcare delivery has gotten better under Governor Adeleke. Prior to his assumption of office, healthcare service delivery was at its lowest web, denying the people needed healthcare. In the short term, Governor Adeleke initiated the Imole Surgical and Medical Outreach to provide immediate reprieve to the people suffering various health challenges. The medical intervention took place in each of the nine (9) federal constituencies in the state, rendering free surgeries for cataracts, Pterigium, Hernia and some swellings on the body as well as other medical conditions like hypertension, diabetes, malaria, cough, tuberculosis, and other diseases. No fewer than 50,000 residents of the state have benefited from this initiative, contributing significantly to a healthy population.

On the long term, Governor Adeleke embarked on the rehabilitation of 345 primary healthcare centres (PHCs) in the state. The intervention, which is ongoing has delivered at least, 200 rehabilitated PHCs with the installation of a 24/7 power source and water facility, and the balance of 145 PHCs are undergoing rehabilitation. Regular distribution of drugs to the primary healthcare centres in Osun State is a common feature under the Adeleke administration in the 31 months, making it possible for patients to get drugs for basic ailment in health facilities across the state.

On the question of integrity and consistency, it is either Adebayo Adeleke is lost to his own mischief or just bad with lies, because nothing demonstrates integrity in a leader than keeping his campaign promises. During a debate in the build up to the 2022 governorship election, Governor Adeleke promised to pay owed half salary. The promise was too good to be real that his main challenger, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola, doubted the possibility. But now, the reality is here and as everyone can see, he is fulfilling that promise and many others, solidifying him as a man of integrity.

It is quite worrisome that Adebayo Adeleke will go as far as concoct lies just to smear Governor Adeleke, perhaps because of his desperate ambition to be on the ballot as a pair next year. Anyone who have come close to Governor Adeleke will acknowledge his civility and respect for elders. Governor Adeleke is a well cultured man who imbibe deeply the admonition of God to respect leaders and elders. At no time did Governor Adeleke insult or attack President Bola Tinubu in his several communications, which are all in the public domain.

Contrary to Adebayo Adeleke's fallacious postulations, Governor Adeleke has explored several federal institutions and set ups to attract developments that will benefit citizens. Many of the fruits of the efforts of Governor Adeleke in this regard have failed to yield largely due to the toxic and dangerous politics of the likes of Adebayo Adeleke, who out of envy and bitter politics, are punishing Osun people because they voted against them in 2022.

It is only people who have lost their conscience to greed and hatred will try to blame an innocent man for what they orchestrated. Governor Adeleke is a simple man, not given given to hatred or bile, which those on the side of Adebayo Adeleke oozes without restraint. Governor Adeleke has ensured that every support received from the central government serves the people and they are manifest in the various projects and interventions delivered so far.

As much as Adebayo Adeleke may try hard to portray Governor Adeleke wrongly, the people of Osun knows the truth and have used it to counter him severally on radio stations. It is quite laughable that Adebayo Adeleke who can hardly deliver his hometown for his party in a free-and-fair contest is mischievously trying to playdown the influence of a man who has won elections as Senator and Governor at different time under an opposition party. Remove the effect of 'federal might' from Adebayo Adeleke and his crew and you will find out that they are nothing but dogs who know nothing but just making noise.

Osun APC is a Threat to the Judiciary & Democracy, Alleged Bribery of NULGE Leadership Baseless - Adeleke’s Spokesperson

Osun APC is a Threat to the Judiciary & Democracy, Alleged Bribery of NULGE Leadership Baseless - Adeleke’s Spokesperson

Osun state chapter of the All Progressives Congress is a strong threat to democracy and the sanctity of the judiciary going by its reckless actions and statements on the Osun local government matters currently before the Supreme Court.

Spokesperson to Governor Ademola Adeleke made the statement while responding to allegations by the state APC that the state governor had bribed the leadership of the local government workers’ union (NULGE) to stay away from the local government secretariats.

According to the spokesperson, the allegation was not only unfounded and baseless but a further manifestation of the APC’s disregard for the rule of law and its shameless embrace of impunity in a democracy that is governed by known laws and the constitution.

“The level of impunity on display by the state APC constitutes serious threat to our democratic life. The party started by falsifying a Court of Appeal judgement to claim a fake reinstatement of its court sacked chairmen. It proceeded to ignore a Court of Appeal judgement arising from its own belated appeal which affirmed the subsistence of the sacking of its chairmen and confirmed the legality of PDP chairmen and councillors across the local governments.

“Behaving like political robbers in a lawless country, the state APC got even more emboldened to invade and occupy the council secretariats without any legal mandate. With a system that appears to pander to illegality, the opposition brazenly made to claim public fund through another layers of illegality until they were legally stopped in their track.

“The judiciary had waded in to set the records straight, providing needed interpretation and interventions. Unfortunately, the state APC appears so bitter and so bold about its disrespect for the judiciary that it can still be debating a matter now before the highest court in the land. This was after it has fruitlessly launched sabotage of the judicial process.

“ The general public is aware of the illegality and criminal dimension of the APC actions on the Osun local government issues. At this point, we expect the opposition to submit and await the ruling of the apex court instead of throwing tantrums about the failure of its illegal take over of Osun local government system.

“We therefore urge the public to disregard the new bag of lies from the APC. The workers union is an independent body with its own modus operandi. The fight to stop the attempted looting of the local government treasury is a collective efforts of all stakeholders who needs no inducement to fight for and protect their interests.

“The opposition has come to the end of its evil game; the people have resisted illegality; and the world awaits the judiciary to make final pronouncement”, the Spokesperson was quoted as saying.

Osun LGs: Court rules on jurisdiction, joinder applications Nov. 27

Osun LGs: Court rules on jurisdiction, joinder applications Nov. 27

...dismisses UBA Plc’s sine die adjournment request

...extends freezing order on accounts

Justice Ladiran Akintola of the Oyo State High Court sitting in Ibadan has adjourned till November 27, 2025, for ruling on applications challenging the jurisdiction of the court as well as joinders filed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the case concerning the preservation of funds accrued to Osun State local governments from the Federation Account.

The Court also extended its earlier order freezing the 30 accounts at UBA Plc where the disputed funds are lodged, pending the next adjourned date.

In addition, the Court dismissed the application filed by UBA Plc’s lead counsel, Ojo Adebayo (SAN), which sought a sine die adjournment of the case pending the Supreme Court’s ruling on a similar matter.

Lead counsel to the claimants, Musibau Adetunmbi (SAN), had during proceedings on Tuesday opposed the applications by both the APC and the PDP to be joined as parties to the case.

He also opposed the application by the APC cahllenging the jurisdiction of the court arguing that the APC could not file any application on a matter to which it is not a party, and that the same applies to the PDP.

According to him, “As far as this case is concerned, the APC is a stranger and, as a result, it cannot file this motion.”

He therefore prayed the court to dismiss the APC motion challenging the court's jurisdiction as well as joinder applications filed by both the APC and the PDP.

Adetunmbi further maintained that the Court has jurisdiction to entertain the matter, contrary to the submission of the APC’s lead counsel, Kazeem Gbadamosi (SAN).

Gbadamosi, in his argument, had challenged the territorial jurisdiction of the Court to entertain the suit.

He also questioned the locus standi of the claimants, arguing that the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria vests the power to administer local government funds in the local government authorities themselves. His argument, however, was countered by the counsel to the Attorney General of Osun State, who cited relevant legal authorities.

After listening to arguments from both sides, Justice Akintola adjourned the matter till November 27, 2025, for ruling.

On the sine die adjournment application filed by UBA Plc, the Court held that the application could not be entertained while there were still pending applications challenging its jurisdiction.

Ruling on a similar suit filed by the PDP against UBA Plc, Justice Akintola referred the matter to the Chief Judge for reassignment to another court.

Governor Adeleke on Condolence Visit to Akinlalu, Says Culprits to Face the Law

Governor Adeleke on Condolence Visit to Akinlalu, Says Culprits to Face the Law

● Promises Compensation for families and Victims

Governor Ademola Adeleke who cut short his medical trip abroad today paid condolence visit to the royal father of Akinlalu, families of victims and people of Akinlalu town over the killing of three members of the town by operatives of Amotekun security service.

The Governor, accompanied by the Deputy Governor, Prince Kola Adewusi; Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun; Secretary to the State Government, Hon Teslim Igbalaye; the Chief of Staff, Hon Kazeem Akinleye and members of the house of Assembly and the state executive Council commiserated with  victims and Akinlalu town, informing them that he headed straight to the town after his arrival from the United States.

“I am truly sad. I was in the United States when the unfortunate incident happened. I cut short my medical stay. I arrived late yesterday and I called my team we need to be here to emphathise with the victims.

The Governor who prayed for the victims, the families and the entire town commended the people of Akinlalu for their patience and embracing of peaceful push for justice, promising that those responsible for the killings will be brought to book.

“I can tell you the perpetrators will face full wrath of the law. There won’t be any sacred cows. Any Amotekun officer needed for interrogation by the police is to cooperate with the investigation. I have directed the Board chairman of Amotekun security service, AIG Wale Abbas Rtd. to cooperate with the investigation by the police”, the governor asserted at the palace.

Reinforcing updates from the police, the Governor said suspects in the dastardly operation are being arrested by the police even as he urged the town people to supply names of Amotekun operatives they know are involved in the incident.

“I commend the town for sustaining peace. We will compensate the families of the victims. We will also build a police station for the town as requested. Akinlalu is our town and the plan of my administration is to fast track its development. Above all, suspects will face the law”, the Governor noted.

In his speech while welcoming the Governor to the town, the Alakinlalu of Akinlalu, Oba Israel Oluwabusola Aborisade, commended the Governor for the infra projects in the town and pleaded with him to press hard to ensure the perpetrators are punished for killings of his people.

“Excellency, we appreciate this visit. Secure justice for us. We trust your leadership. To my people, I urge us to continue to maintain peace. We are confident the suspects will not go unpunished”, the traditional rulers asserted.

In his remarks, Hon. Oyewusi Ireyode Akinyode representing Ife North State Constituency appreciated the peaceful embrace of the people in the face of provocation but appealed to the people to allow law enforcement agents to diligently carry out their investigation.

While emphasizing that Akinlalu is bordered by several towns and villages in the neighboring Ondo state, the Deputy Speaker of Osun House of Assembly said that Amotekun security service is strategically relevant in community policing. He therefore appealed to the people not to throw the baby away with the bath water.

Earlier, the youth leader for Akinlalu town, Musbau Adeboye started his submission with a note of appreciation for the construction of the Akinlalu township road and praised the several delegation already sent to the town when the governor was out of town.

He then read a position paper prepared by the youth of the town containing key requests such as the immediate suspension of key Amotekun officials; justice and accountability through transparent investigation; comprehensive compensation for the victims; a plea against security harassment in future; and request for police station at Akinlalu.

Fadahunsi’s Reckless Comment on Amotekun: A Shameful Abuse of Power and Arrogant Overreach

Fadahunsi’s Reckless Comment on Amotekun: A Shameful Abuse of Power and Arrogant Overreach

The attention of concerned citizens of Osun State has been drawn to a reckless and arrogant statement credited to Senator Francis Fadahunsi, representing Osun East Senatorial District, wherein he claimed responsibility for the sealing of the operational bases of the Osun Amotekun Corps in Osogbo and Ile-Ife, describing the institution as a “home of murderers.”

It is both laughable and lamentable that a man whose political history is soaked in thuggery and misuse of raw power could have the moral audacity to cast aspersions on a lawful and people-oriented security agency that has, since inception, been complementing the efforts of conventional security operatives across the state.

For a serving Senator to openly boast of being behind the sealing of a state security agency is not only reckless and irresponsible, but also a direct affront to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Such an act reflects the Senator’s deep-seated arrogance and his dangerous attempt to elevate himself above the law as though he were the Chief of Defence Staff or Commander-in-Chief.

Let it be clearly stated: No Senator, no matter how influential, possesses the legal authority to order or enforce the closure of any state security institution.

This unguarded boast is, therefore, nothing but an abuse of office and a shameful display of political overreach unbecoming of a federal lawmaker.

The Osun Amotekun Corps, created by law through the Osun State House of Assembly, has consistently demonstrated bravery and professionalism in combating insecurity within the state. From the recovery of stolen livestock and interception of armed robbers to the curbing of kidnapping and illegal mining activities, the Corps has remained a pillar of community safety, particularly in rural areas where federal security presence is minimal.

Instead of sponsoring media attacks and hurling insults at an institution that protects the people, Senator Fadahunsi ought to channel his energy into strengthening it through advocacy, reform proposals, and legislative support; if truly he represents the interest of his constituents.

This Hitler-style arrogance of boasting to have “sealed” a state security base is dangerous, dictatorial, and completely out of tune with democratic ethos.

Senator Fadahunsi is advised to face his dusty duty of lawmaking, focus on patriotic service, and stop dragging Osun into needless tension and political theatrics.

The people of Osun stand firmly behind Amotekun, a symbol of homegrown security and community trust.

Our collective resolve is to support, reform, and strengthen Amotekun, not destroy it with politics of bitterness and ego trips.

True leaders build institutions; pretenders destroy them for self-glorification.

Senator Fadahunsi should choose which side of history he wishes to stand on.

YORÙBÁ RÒNÚ: Amotekun Is Not The Enemy

YORÙBÁ RÒNÚ: Amotekun Is Not The Enemy

In a time when insecurity threatens the very soul of our communities, and trust in centralized authority continues to erode, one truth stands clear like the midday sun: Amotekun is not just a security outfit. Amotekun is an embodiment of the Yoruba people's will to survive, protect, and preserve their heritage.

Let it be stated without ambiguity — the Osun Amotekun Corps is not illegal, rogue, or political. It is a creation of law, passed through all the legislative processes required by a competent State House of Assembly. Its mandate is clear: to assist in securing the lives and properties of Osun indigenes and residents. And since inception, the Amotekun Corps in Osun has delivered on this mandate with dedication, courage, and tangible results.

*THE WAR AGAINST AMOTEKUN: WHO BENEFITS?*

In recent times, we've witnessed disturbing reports of harassment, intimidation, and even forceful invasion of Amotekun offices by operatives of the Nigeria Police. These acts are not only unconstitutional but symbolically dangerous. They send the message that a lawful regional effort to protect the people can be trampled underfoot — all in the name of central authority and politics.

To those who rejoice at the embarrassment of Amotekun because it suits their political narrative — ask yourselves: what will be left when chaos comes to your doorstep? Who will stand for you when the centralized system fails again, as it has so many times before?

Let it be clear: Amotekun is apolitical. Its allegiance is not to a party but to the people. The safety of Yoruba sons and daughters, whether rich or poor, Muslim or Christian, is the beating heart of Amotekun’s mission. Undermining that mission is a betrayal of our collective interest.

*SECURITY IS NOT A GAME – IT IS SURVIVAL*

To those attacking Amotekun on social media with careless words, know this: security is not an arena for political clout-chasing or tribal mockery. Every outfit, every patrol, every successful operation by Amotekun represents a community made safer, a life potentially saved, a crime prevented.

Where were you when bandits turned highways into hunting grounds? Where were your tweets when farmers abandoned their lands for fear of herdsmen attacks? It is Amotekun that stepped into that gap. It is Amotekun that restored confidence in many rural communities.

So, Yoruba Ronu! Think! We must never allow political bitterness to cloud our cultural vision. Amotekun is not a political party. Amotekun is a cultural response to a national emergency.

*A WORD TO THE POLICE*

We recognize the role of the Nigeria Police, and we acknowledge the authority of the Inspector General of Police. But there is a Yoruba proverb that says: “Ilé là bọ̀ sí mi ọkọ” — the home is where one returns when the world outside grows dangerous.

The Police must tread carefully. Bursting into Amotekun offices as though raiding a criminal hideout is an insult — not just to the corps, but to the will of the people of Osun State. The Amotekun Corps is not a CAC-registered NGO. It is a statutory security agency, backed by law.

This clash is not a turf war. It is a test of whether Nigeria respects the federalism it claims to practice. Osun has the constitutional right to establish and operate Amotekun. Anything less than that recognition is a slide into unitary dictatorship.

*TO OUR ROYAL FATHERS AND GOVERNORS: THE TIME TO SPEAK IS NOW*

Where are the voices of our traditional rulers? Where are the defenders of our ancient kingdoms — the Obas who have sworn to protect their people from internal and external aggression?

An attack on Amotekun in Osun is an attack on every Yoruba community. Silence is not neutrality. It is endorsement. We call on all royal fathers, cultural leaders, and governors across the South West to rise in unison. As the saying goes, "An injury to one is an injury to all."

Do not let politics divide us on this sacred duty of self-preservation. The walls are cracking. And when the walls of a compound break, it is not only the lizards that come in — snakes and monsters do too.

*YORUBA RONU: LET HISTORY REMEMBER WHERE YOU STOOD*

This is a pivotal moment in our history. The decision we make now — to defend Amotekun or to destroy it — will echo into the future. Will we be remembered as a people who sabotaged their own protection? Or as those who stood boldly to defend their dignity and destiny?

*Yoruba Ronu. Think deeply. Speak wisely. Act boldly.*

Amotekun is not the enemy. Amotekun is our heritage. Amotekun has come to stay.

Ogungbangbe Commends Osun LG Workers for Unwavering Loyalty and Compliance with Sit-at-Home Directive

Ogungbangbe Commends Osun LG Workers for Unwavering Loyalty and Compliance with Sit-at-Home Directive

The President of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Osun State Chapter, Dr. Nathaniel Kehinde Ogungbangbe, has commended all local government workers across the 30 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in the state for their exceptional discipline, unity, and steadfast adherence to the union’s sit-at-home directive.

In a statement released on Monday, Dr. Ogungbangbe applauded the courage of the workers who have continued to show commitment to the cause of justice and the defense of due process in local government administration. He described their obedience to the union’s directive as a demonstration of their beliefs to the principles of lawful governance and their unshakable belief in the leadership of the union.

"Despite numerous attempts by anti-democratic elements to frustrate the collective resolve of the union, Local Government workers have refused to be intimidated or lured into illegality."

“Our members have proven once again that they stand for truth, order, and justice. I commend their patience and maturity in the face of provocation and deceit,” he stated.

Dr. Ogungbangbe also revealed that reports from across the state confirmed that a few hired political agents, masquerading as local government staff, were seen loitering around some council secretariats. He clarified that these individuals, identified as purported APC loyalists, were allegedly mobilized to create false impressions of normalcy. “These impostors, however, disappeared from the secretariats shortly after receiving their payment from their political sponsors. The true workers of Osun have maintained their integrity by refusing to be part of such acts of sabotage."

While reaffirming that the sit-at-home directive remains in force until the safety and legitimacy of local government administration are guaranteed, Dr. Ogungbangbe urged members to continue to exercise restraint, remain peaceful, and ignore any directive coming from unauthorized persons or politically motivated factions. He reiterated that NULGE will never compromise the interest of its members or the sanctity of the law.

The NULGE President further called on the Osun State Government, security agencies, and well-meaning stakeholders to remain vigilant and ensure that the sanctity of local government institutions is not violated by impostors or political opportunists. He assured workers that the union is working tirelessly, through both legal and administrative channels, to restore normalcy and secure their welfare and dignity soon.

Breaking: Osun NULGE Members Shun Duty Resumption, Continue Stay at Home Action

Reports from across the 30 local governments and Area Council indicated that local government workers shunned directive to resume work by an APC sponsored group within the state NULGE.

Checks across the state confirmed that the workers rejected the group labelled Concerned Members of Osun NULGE.

In some LGAs, some hired hands were seen parading themselves as LG staff but they left soon after they were settled by their APC sponsors.

The APC had plotted to arrest NULGE leaders and force them to announce resumption of duty.

The plot failed as the labour leaders could not be tracked and as they insisted  that stay at home action was meant to protect their members from violence due to the leadership issues surrounding local government administration in the state

Meanwhile, preparations are on for LG workers to collect their 2025 promotion letters from the local government service commission.
