PENSION: OSSG Organises Pre-Retirement workshop for Intending Retirees.

PENSION: OSSG Organises Pre-Retirement workshop for Intending Retirees.

OPE BELLO

Osun State Government, through the Bureau of Public Service Pension, has organised a day sensitization programme for intending retirees, under Contribution Pension Scheme  in the State.

The event was geared towards cascading the right information about the contributory pension scheme to public servants in the State who are due for retirement.

The Workshop was declared open by the State Head of Service Mr. Ayanleye Aina, who said  it would  make life after retirement remarkable for the prospective retirees.

Ayanleye stated that Pension Desk Officers were invited for the training programme in order to boost their capacities on sound and workable retirement plan ahead of retirement.

In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary Osun State Bureau of Public Service Pension, Mr. Bayo Raji, noted that the event was organized in the interest of intending retirees in order to keep them  abreast of the pension payment process upon retirement.

Raji appreciated all the facilitators from  different Pension outfits,  promising to continue to organize the sensitisation workshop for intending retirees.

Also speaking at the event, the Facilitator, Aroyehun Oluwakemi, Head of Business Development (South) Veritas Glanvills Pension, who explained that access to the right information is key for every intending retiree, asserted that: "Since retirement is inevitable for all workers, getting the right information to prospective retirees is key."

Also speaking, Sodipe Bababunmi,  Group Head Benefits and Administration, Lead way Pension observed that, "the  previous scheme had too many issues such as lack of transparency, no uniform parameter, irregular payment of contribution by some administrators, resulting in insurmountable backlogs and arrears that were detrimental to these senior citizens whose survival, most times, is dependent on their retirement benefits”.

He further explained  how to use  CPS as a  collateral for mortgage and many other benefits of the scheme.

Prior to this time, many public servants were sparsely aware of the mechanism of the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) and its inherent benefits. Some were skeptical and circumspect of their respective Pension Fund Administrators (PFAs).

Governor Adeleke Celebrates Barrister Hashim Abioye On His Birthday

OSOGBO– 22/12/2023– Osunstate.gov.ng

The Executive Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke has rejoiced with the Chairman of the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC), Barrister Hashim Abioye, on the occasion of his birthday, describing him as a fine legal mind with strong penchant for laid down processes and rule of law.

Governor Adeleke notes his admiration for Hon. Hashim's sense of duty and discipline, saying his trajectory in life so far inspires a great amount of faith in his capacity to do what is right, no matter the odds.

While praising him for his uprightness and unwavering dedication to public good, Governor Adeleke salutes Hon. Hashim's energy and passionate drive to rebuild a public institution for the good of all as he's currently demonstrating at OSSIEC.

"I rejoice with Hon. Barrister Hashim Abioye as he turns a new age today. Barrister Hashim is a great talent, and more endearing about his person, is the humane angle that usually reflects in whatever he does," the Governor noted.

"From the time I've known him, I have come to appreciate his invaluable insights on issues, particularly on legal matters, and his deep affection for public interest is a treasure to behold.

"As he marks a new age, I pray that Allah Subhannah watahala continues to shine his unceasing grace on him and grant him more celebrations so that he can continue to offer his wealth of knowledge and expertise toward the benefit of Osun people and humanity as a whole."

GOVERNOR ADELEKE WILL DELIVER ALL HE PROMISED OSUN PEOPLE BEYOND REASONABLE DOUBT... GEORGE ALABI

GOVERNOR ADELEKE WILL DELIVER ALL HE PROMISED OSUN PEOPLE BEYOND REASONABLE DOUBT...

GEORGE ALABI

HOW DID YOU GET INTO POLITICS

Well, everybody is a political animal. I have natural flair for politics maybe because my father was a one time OBA for the whole Nigerians based in Cote D'Ivoire. During my childhood, I could see my father administering people from different tribe not now that people refer to themselves as Igbo, Yoruba, Hausa and the rest. Then we always see ourselves as Nigerians. I used to see him inviting people to the house, settling quarrels from inter tribal issues to other issues among Nigerians over there. That was when I decided to go into politics.

COMPARISON OF THE PREVIOUS ADMINISTRATION AND PRESENT ADMINISTRATION

I have the opportunity of serving 6 months with the previous governor, Ogbeni Aregbesola and I can say I know some of the ways they run their government in APC.  Politics apart, the current party is People oriented and we always have people's sympathy in our way of doing things in PDP.

APC to me seems to be authoritarian. Hardly can you challenge them which is not like that in PDP.

In PDP, everyone's opinion is valued. During Baba Akande's tenure, people were retired without any retirement plan or settlement and during the tenure of Aregbesola as well, Lagos based politicians benefited more than the Osun indigenes. Osun indigenes were like second class citizens in their own state. All the resources of the state were  transferred to Lagos State. So, there is no basis for any comparison as the gap is just too wide. It is what we all know that Osun indigenes were poorer during the time of Aregbesola.

WHAT IS PDP DOING DIFFERENTLY?

Immediately our governor was sworn in, workers that were being owed half salaries during APC tenure started getting their Arrears paid as promised by Mr Governor during campaigns despite the scarce resources in the state.

Secondly, Immediately Mr Governor came on board, he returned the local government back to their former position as he promised during the Electioneering campaign. In the next two months you will see the impact of local governments here in Osun State because it is the local government that is nearer to the people.

During Aregbesola's  period, all the indigenous contractors were not engaged on any project in the state but I can assure you that that era is gone and our people will experience new things. We will empower our people.

WHAT NEW INNOVATIONS ARE YOU BRINGING?

When I reported here I met some challenges and part of it is that it is only in Osun State that I will see a government that will acquire land for housing and ask people to come and buy but they will not open it. In Osogbo the state capital, the government acquired land around State SIB at ring road and all the people that paid for those land could not have access to the land because the government refused to open it.

I am working with my Permanent Secretary and  when the new budget  starts operating we will open all the GRA sites so that people will be able to build their houses there.

There is another one that we want to use as a reference in Osun State. We want to call it ADETUNJI ADELEKE GRA, and it will be a model. The difference between it and the rest is that we are going to construct roads with standard drainage as well as other amenities you can find at any standard GRA. The development there will be pre-designed in a way that those who want to build bungalows we have allocation where such is designed to be and those who want to build duplex will have their allocations too where such should be. So, there will be uniformity.

IS IT GOING TO BE FOR PDP PEOPLE ALONE?

No. When we start, people can apply and if you meet up with all the criteria you will get the land without you knowing anyone. It is meant for Osun indigenes but because of the standard of the facilities the amount maybe a little bit high but it is not high in the sense that it is like 4 plots of what they sell outside. So it will still be much cheaper than what you will get outside.

THE GOVERNOR APART FROM BEING A POLITICIAN, HE IS ALSO AN ADMINISTRATOR, WHAT KIND OF ADMINISTRATOR IS HE?

His Excellency, Ademola Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke is an excellent administrator because he makes himself very accessible to us. Anytime we have anything to discuss with him we are at liberty to talk to him and once your own argument is superior and people oriented, he is ready to bow and that makes him achieve things. He does not impose his will on us.

WHAT IS YOUR MESSAGE FOR THE PEOPLE OF OSUN STATE AS HE CELEBRATES HIS FIRST YEAR?

The government just launched a N100 billion project plan targeted at developing infrastructure for one year. So, I want to appeal to Osun people to continue to have faith in Mr Governor and believe in his administration. Mr Governor is going to deliver his 5 points agenda beyond reasonable doubts. He is not out to make money but to make name for his family. He is not after what he can get from the state, he just wants to use the state Resources to make the state better. From everything seen since he resumed office things have changed for better. It is my belief that by next year Osun State will be a better state.

Ilesa Water Project: Osun APC Should Be Ashamed Of Its Failure - PDP

Ilesa Water Project: Osun APC Should Be Ashamed Of Its Failure - PDP

**Mulls Prosecution of Culprits.

The ruling party in Osun State, the People's Democratic Party (PDP) has slammed the opposition party in Osun over its thoughtless remarks on the Ilesa Water Project.

The recent remark from Osun APC chairman, Tajudeen Lawal,  calling Adeleke's action about the project "Political pettiness" shows that APC is not remorseful for the atrocities it committed while in office. The challenges the project is facing were caused by the Oyetola government. It was Oyetola who terminated the contractor's contract leading to the litigation that the state is battling.

In a release from the Media Office of the party, the State Chairman, Hon. Sunday Bisi while commenting on the Ilesa water project and the recent reaction from the opposition, described the APC as an anti-people association and a clueless party. Governor Adeleke's action exemplifies the responsible oversight expected of a government committed to inclusive governance.

"The mismanagement of funds and allegations of corruption during the previous administration demanded a reassessment of the project's trajectory, which Governor Adeleke duly acknowledged."

"Since Lawal has decided to mislead the public through false accusations on Governor Adeleke, there is a need to remind the public of the atrocities of the APC on the water project. Lawal and his fellow grievers should be informed that it was Oyetola who terminated the water project contract with the contractor thereby resulting in the Contractor's court action. This added to the several messes of the Oyetola government that Governor Adeleke has been left to clear. The Governor has initiated an out-of-court settlement with the contractor which is currently ongoing."

"Lawal seems preoccupied with deflecting attention from the glaring failures during his party's tenure. The massive corruption under the last administration concerning the project is another challenge. Despite the staggering  billions of naira spent on the project,  it is still far from completion."

"The Governor after meeting with the then Minister of Water Resources was advised to relieve the project consultant who was accused of squandering several billions of naira which resulted in more revelation on the corruption under the last administration."

"The project consultant accused the House of Assembly led by an Ijesa man and an APC stalwart, Timothy Owoeye, of demanding a 5 million dollar ($5,000,000) bribe. This highlights the corrupt practices that derailed the project's progress. This unacceptable diversion of public funds for personal gain reflects a dire lack of empathy and accountability within the previous administration."

"Lawal should call Owoeye to address the public why he apparently neglected his community's welfare in favour of personal enrichment, an act unbecoming of an elected representative entrusted with safeguarding the public interest."

"The termination of the project's contract by Oyetola's administration resulting in legal actions added complexity to an already convoluted situation. Governor Adeleke's proactive measures in clearing the aftermath of these decisions reflect his dedication to rectifying the evil perpetrated by the previous governance.

"The ongoing discussion for an out-of-court settlement with the contractor was also borne out of the current administration's efforts to mitigate potential financial repercussions stemming from the clumsy actions of the past actions. This indicates a strategic approach aimed at safeguarding the state's interests, a commendable display of maturity in handling a challenging situation."

"The claims by Lawal and his cohorts regarding Governor Adeleke's involvement in the Ilesa Water Project lack substance when juxtaposed against the prevalent mismanagement, corruption, and neglect witnessed during the tenure of Lawal's party."

"Adeleke's administration's focus on transparency, community welfare, and accountability in public spending stands the governor out as a beacon of impeccable integrity. It is imperative to prioritize the truth over baseless accusations and hold to account, all those responsible for the mismanagement and malpractices that hindered developmental projects, including that of the Ilesa water project" he concluded.

Alawo Stool: CHRSJ Should Seek Proper Education, and Stop Blackmailing Osun Gov, Attorney General.

Alawo Stool: CHRSJ Should Seek Proper Education, and Stop Blackmailing Osun Gov, Attorney General.

The Centre for Human Rights and Social Justice (CHRSJ) needs to seek proper education from authorities on the throne of the Alawo of Awo in Egbedore Local Government, rather than embarking on blackmail against the Governor, His Excellency, Senator Ademola Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke and the Attorney General of the state, Barrister Oluwole Jimi-Bada.

The ridiculous petition letter, submitted to the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) and Chairman, the National Judicial Commission(NJC) by the above-named organization over a matter that was initiated by the immediate-past Governor, Mr Gboyega Oyetola, which is patiently waiting for the Supreme Court’s final decision is just too hypocritical and even subjudiced.

Right in the body of the said petition, there are numerous inconsistencies including an allegation that His Excellency  Governor Nurudeen Jackson Ademola Adeleke will soon issue the staff of office on Awo stool which had already been done by ex-Governor Gboyega Oyetola months before the current government came into power.

For record purposes, Mr Taiwo Adegboye was installed as the Alawo of Awo in September 2021 and was subsequently issued staff of office by the Administration of Gboyega Oyetola.

Are they now saying that Governor Ademola Adeleke is on a mission to reissue an already issued Staff of Office? Just doesn’t add up!

While it is a fact that there is a judgement from the Court of Appeal on the stool, Mr Taiwo Adegboye also sought a stay of execution on the judgement, hence, the government’s decision to maintain the status quo pending the full determination of the litigation at the Supreme Court.

It is however unfortunate that a supposedly well-informed civil society organization like the CHRSJ could not differentiate between an anniversary and a coronation but resorted to blackmail for whatever reason predetermined by them.

The misconceptions in the heap of lies tagged petition would have been pardonable if some salient accusations including those concerning the office of the Attorney General of Osun State were not made. Malicious lies including the allegation that the Attorney General misled Mr. Governor on the matter are not just untrue but also hypocritical by faceless persons hiding behind the said organization.

Unknown to them, the NJC under the leadership of the Chief Justice of the Federation is an objective body that does not rely on unverifiable claims for pronouncements.

Unfortunately for these masked writers, their attempt to cause disaffection between His Excellency Mr Governor and the general public has failed once again. Osun is a state of reasonable individuals who are civically aware of the realities around them, not a jungle.

Luckily for us in Osun, we are blessed with a Governor who is a Democrat in aspects, respects established institutions and recognizes the principle of separation of power among tiers and arms of government.

The entire public should beware of organizations like CHRSJ which thrives in lies, blackmail and malicious publications against our masses-lovely government authorities, to serve whatever purpose predetermined by the persons behind it.

Akin Adeyi's Sphere Of Absurdity By Saliu Nofisat Opeyemi

Akin Adeyi's Sphere Of Absurdity  By Saliu Nofisat Opeyemi

Akin Adeyi is a rabble-rouser and worse, a shameless liar. But no one could have imagined that he will descend so low to involve innocent babies in his politics of lies. In his usual obscene character, Adeyi irresponsibly claimed that the overseas trip of Governor Ademola Adeleke was to attend the naming ceremony of the twins of Mr. David Adeleke,. popularly known as Davido. He went a step further in his campaign of lies by falsely claiming that Commissioners and Special Advisers joined Governor Adeleke in that trip. How can Adeyi be this reckless with lies? Sigh!

For the record, Mr. David Adeleke and his wife, Chioma, welcomed their twins on October 13, 2023, and by customs and norms, naming ceremony should hold eight days after, which should be October 20, 2023. This is common sense but obviously, Adeyi lacks any, otherwise, he would not have mischievously linked the trip of Governor Adeleke more than two weeks after to the naming ceremony of Davido's babies. Although, Adeyi is known to be a retard, but as a man over the age of 60 years, and probably a grandfather, he should at least understand that dragging babies into his politics of lies is the worst for any human being. I'm sure his children, many of whom he is not responsible for, will be so ashamed of his embarrassing conducts all in the name of crumbs.

On Monday, November 27, 2023, Governor Adeleke was interviewed on Rave FM, and disclosed that contrary to the lies of Adeyi and his party, the APC, he is in Thailand, not the USA. It can only be the warped imagination of Adeyi that Governor Adeleke went for Davido's babies naming ceremony in the USA, because, just as the Governor disclosed, which aligned with the official communication of his media team, he is in Asia, since Thailand is a country in that continent.

And contrary to the lies of Adeyi, Commissioners and Special Advisers were at their respective offices in the state, performing their respective duties. In fact, many of the Commissioners and Special Advisers joined civil servants in defending their respective Ministries proposition in the 2024 budget, but knowing the character of Adeyi, he doesn't care for fact in his desperation to misinform the public.

During the one year anniversary of Governor, Commissioners and Special Advisers led by the Information and Public Enlightenment Commissioner, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi addressed the public through the press and provided the scorecard of the administration. Every major media outlet reported this, and this could have guided Adeyi's wrong conclusion, but he seemed lost in his art of lies that he doesn't care for the truth any longer.

To understand unfortunate situation, take a look at the second paragraph of his ludicrous post. He noted that the "semblance of government  being experienced before they all went on their America Jamborees may not resume until when the real managers of Osun also come back", a clear admittance to the fact of the Adeleke administration visible impacts as against his previous lies and those of his party. What he however missed is that the Adeleke administration work as a team, and his observation on Commissioners having nothing to do, is nothing but a fallacy, and that arises from his poor understanding of how a government works.

On the question of N9 billion receipt from the federal government, Adeyi again showed his limitation about governance, or maybe it is penchant for mischief is the reason for his faulty reasonability. At Ipade Imole, Governor Adeleke clearly explained how the administration will utilize the N2bn subsidy fund and N7bn refund from the federal government. For the N2bn, the Governor said part will be used to procure buses to add to the pool of vehicles available for the state, while the remainder will be expended on buying food stuffs to be distributed to citizens and also fixing some healthcare centres in the state. The N7bn refund, according to the Governor, will go to funding infrastructural projects. Only mischievous people like Adeyi and his party, the APC, will continue to raise question on what has long been answered, and acceptable to Osun people. Adeyi must know that the Adeleke administration is not the same as the Gboyega Oyetola administration, which can't say exactly what it used over N13bn refund from the federal government for.

Is it not ridiculous for Adeyi to ignorantly assumed that the official vehicle assigned to lawmakers in the state are sourced from the N9bn receipt from the federal government. Although, I am well aware of Adeyi's terrible state of mind, but haba, somethings are just common sense for infantile spasms. Vehicles for lawmakers is a provision always factored in the budget every four years, irrespective of the government at the helm of affairs. It is not something that started with Governor Adeleke, so, the question raised by Adeyi is illogical, because it makes no sense. It is pure mischief and any reasonable Osun indigines can see through the scheme of Adeyi. The vehicles for lawmakers are rightful entitlements and sourced through the House budgetary provision, contrary to the mischievous insinuation of Adeyi.

And lastly, the position of Adeyi on contracts award under Governor Adeleke is funny and bizarre. Osun people can attest to the Adeleke administration adherence to due process in the award of contract unlike what is obtainable under the previous administration. Contrary to the sheer falsehood of Adeyi, the Adeleke administration advertised the Ede/Akoda road among other roads on Nigerian Tribune, which wowed many people, particularly Osun residents that such was not the case under the previous administration. In fact, many road projects under the previous administration did not get the endorsement of the Attorney-General as necessary by law. But Adeyi, who was a partaker in that ignoble era, is pretending to be concern about due process, even when it is fully adhered to by the Adeleke administration. If Adeyi is not sure, he can go to the Due Process Office and clear his ignorance.

While featuring on Rave FM few weeks ago, the Commissioner for Special Duties, Dr. Bashiru. T. Salam clarified that the initial work done on the Ede/Akoda road was a palliative by the Ministry of Works to make it motorable pending when full construction of the road will begin. So, it is pure lie on the part of Adeyi to claim that contractors have been on the road for more than five months without pay. The process for the award of the road is about to be finalized, and so, Adeyi lied on his claim that the government refused to pay the contractor. But if Adeyi is saying the government did, he should please show us when the government awarded it and promised to pay, as he had shamelessly lied.

Osun Judicial Crisis: Judicial Workers Extol Governor Adeleke for Quick Intervention, Payment of Withheld Salaries

OSOGBO: 04/12/2023- osunstate.gov.ng

Members of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria, Osun State Chapter on Monday extol Governor Ademola Adeleke for his quick intervention in the crisis between the union and the embattled Chief Judge of the state, Justice Oyebola Adepele-Ojo.

Speaking on behalf of its members, while the union paid a Courtesy Visit to the Office of the Governor, the Union Chairman, Comrade Gbenga Eludire, commended the Governor for clearing the backlog of 57 month salaries of some members of the union withheld by the embattled Chief Judge.

He noted further that contrary to the fake news in circulation, Osun JUSUN has gotten full nod of its national body and its approval for its strike to continue.

"We are here today because we are happy, the happiness that has eluded us for several years has been restored. All our efforts in the past to restore the happiness of our members failed but the Osun state government has restored it.

"We have been working under tense conditions but today we are glad, our members were suspended, exposed to oppression and victimization but today all that is in the past.

"We decided to put an end to the oppression of the Chief Judge, Justice Oyebola Adepele-Ojo, so we embarked on a strike and the Osun state Government supported us after listening to our plight.

"We are here today with all our members whose salaries were unlawfully withheld so they can show appreciation to the Osun State Government.

"Contrary to the fake news that has been shared, the national body of JUSUN is on our side and they have given us a go ahead with the strike, they said we should not back down until all our demands are met."

Speaking on behalf of the Governor, Prince Kola Adewusi, the Deputy Governor of Osun State, commended the union members and its leadership for coming out to fight injustice, noting that an injury to one is an injury to all.

Adewusi noted that all the issues and complaints raised will be looked into, adding that the state government is aware of the urgent need to attend to the condition of the courts around the state as well as the welfare of the judicial workers.

"On behalf of the Osun state government, we want to applaud you for your maturity in the handling of the issue. We commend your approach to ventilating your grievances without resorting to violence.

"In some quarters they believe it was the Osun state government that had issue with the embattled Osun Chief Judge but we had to tell them that the CJ had issues with JUSUN, not the state government. However, these JUSUN members are our brothers and sisters in the state, whose wellbeing is paramount to the state government.

"Thank you for not allowing your protests to be hijacked. Thank you for raising an alarm on the issue and fighting for your members. An injury to one is an injury to all. I want to assure you that once the Governor returns from vacation, all other demands will be looked into.

"We are aware of the conditions of your offices and our courts and I want to assure that something will be done about it because we actually promised to take care of our workers and that promise will be kept", the Deputy Governor noted.

Earlier, Speaker of the House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Adewale Egbedun while hosting the leadership and member of the Judicial Union in his office apologized for the unfair treatment meted against the Judicial staff especially the five workers that were unfairly suspended.

Rt. Hon. Egbedun revealed that the fact finding assignment done by the House of Assembly on the Petitions received against the CJ is in line with Sections 128 and 129 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The Osun state government wishes to clarify the mild incident involving the wife of the State Governor, Mrs Titilola Adeleke and her orderly.

Mrs Adeleke got stuck while trying to fix her jewelries to dress up for an event and the Police officer who was there incidentally offered to help her fix it. It is never a practice for police officers within Government House to be involved in such activities.

We wish to inform the public that there is a standing rule for all principal officers and top functionaries of the state government never to engage their security details in any domestic or unofficial engagement.

No Osun State Official Attended Naming Ceremony in Atlanta - Commissioner

No Osun State Official Attended Naming Ceremony in Atlanta - Commissioner

OSOGBO - 04/12/2023 - Osunstate.gov.ng

The Osun State government is constrained to clarify that no Osun state government official attended any naming ceremony in Atlanta, United States as being peddled in some opposition misinformation gaffe.

There was also no official delegation to any social event in the United States as there was no such event in the first place.

Those behind the conjectures arising from directional confusion are to be educated that no naming ceremony took place for the new David Adeleke's twins.

Lets further enlighten them that babies are usually named before leaving the hospital in the United States of America so that birth certificates can be issued.

We also need to add that top state officials and commissioners were at their duty posts attending to state functions.

Governor Ademola Adeleke even while on vacation is ensuring coordinated focus and constant networking within government establishment for delivery of services, programmes and projects.

We advise opposition activists to stick to constructive criticism instead of idle gossips in order to preserve whatever little is left of their reputation.

Ilesa Water Project: Governor Adeleke Moves to Extend Contract Lifespan

Ilesa Water Project: Governor Adeleke Moves to Extend Contract Lifespan

OSOGBO- 04/12/2023 - Osunstate.gov.ng

Governor Ademola Adeleke is ramping up actions to extend the life span of the Ilesa water financing agreement with the Islamic Development Bank which is due for closure by December ending.

Responding to a statement by the Asiwaju of Ijeshaland, Chief Yinka Fasuyi, the Spokesperson to Governor Adeleke noted that Mr Governor had since written the Islamic Development Bank through the Federal Ministry of Finance to seek extension of the financing agreement.

A team led by the State Commissioner for Water Resources, the Board Chairman of State Water Corporation and other top managers of the water sector are following up to ensure early response from the headquarters of the IsDB in Jeddah.

Additionally, efforts have been ongoing to secure an out of court settlement with the contractor, a process that has been rather difficult.

Mr Governor from his first month in office has intervened in the inherited contractual crisis between the Osun state government and the contractor handling the water treatment contract. The Governor personally visited the then Minister of Water Resources to resolve the knotty issues around the project.

As directed by Mr Governor, the State Water Corporation has also mapped out elaborate plans to ensure that the extension is secured and the legal and financial constraints facing the project implementation are resolved.

The Asiwaju and the good people of Ijesaland are aware that the crux of the problem was that the Oyetola government had terminated the water treatment contract some months before the assumption of office of Governor Adeleke.

The issue on records had to do with alleged mismanagement of the project by the contractor alongside other sundry issues.

The contractor subsequently took the state government to court claiming damages and breach of contractual obligations. The state government had since entered into negotiation with the contractor to ensure an out of court settlement.

Governor Adeleke assures people of Ijesaland that local, national and global contacts have been activated to ensure that the window of credit finance, to complete the remaining component of Water Treatment Plant being financed by the Islamic Development Bank does not close in 20 days time.

Alawo Stool: Oyetola, Not Adeleke, Appointed and Issued Staff of Office to Alawo

OSOGBO–03/12/2023– Osunstate.gov.ng

The Executive Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke has denied plan to issue a fresh staff of office to Taiwo Adegboye, as the Alawo of Awo, describing as untrue reports in some section of the media that his administration is taking steps contrary to the dictate of rule of laws.

In a statement issued by his Spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, Governor Adeleke clarified that Taiwo Adegboye was installed as the Alawo of Awo in September 2021 and was subsequently issued staff of office by the Administration of Gboyega Oyetola.

Mallam Rasheed reiterated the commitment of the Adeleke administration to the rule of law, saying that the government will not do anything to impugn judicial decisions or tamper with peace and stability of any community in the society.

"We are constrained to inform the public that insinuations of plan by the Adeleke administration to issue fresh staff of office on Awo stool are untrue. The crisis on the Awo stool preceded the administration of Governor Adeleke as Taiwo Adegboye, who is at the centre of the issue, was installed as Alawo several months before his (Adeleke) assumption of office," the statement noted.

"It is worth noting that he (Taiwo Adegboye) was issued staff of office by the previous administration, and so, it is unfounded that Adeleke is planning to issue a staff of office that has already been issued.

"As a government committed to the fairness and rule of law, we recognizes the right of Taiwo Adegboye to exhaust legal option on the Obaship tussle, which at the moment is before the Supreme Court.

"We must also note that Taiwo Adegboye has sought a stay of execution on the judgement of the Appeal Court, hence, the government decision to maintain status quo pending the full determination of the litigation.

"Available information is that Taiwo Adegboye is celebrating the anniversary of his installation and not installation or presentation of new staff of office as erroneously being speculated."

Mallam Rasheed enjoins the public, particularly the people of Awo to disregard concoctions and deliberate misinformation on the Awo Obaship, noting Governor Adeleke's commitment to the path of legality and rule of law.

"Governor Adeleke will not do anything to distort traditions and well established procedures on kingship matters, and we want to urge the public to discountenance any information contrary to this commitment," he added.

OPINION: Of NJC, JUSUN And Osun Chief Judge | By Israel Erasmus

OPINION: Of NJC, JUSUN And Osun Chief Judge | By Israel Erasmus

Impartial watchers of Osun judicial space must be having an interesting manifestation of facts and reality of recent controversies. The public now knows the real issue. The masquerade is unveiled. The real actors now are the judicial workers who petitioned the Chief Judge before the ubiquitous National Judicial Council.

Those initial figures and institutions such as the State Governor, Ademola Adeleke and the State House of Assembly are now out of the picture. Beyond exposing corruption , the House of Assembly has stepped aside. The Governor beside forwarding the House resolution to the NJC has taken the back seat. Those fringe actors have left the limelight for the real dramatis personae.

The nation now focuses on the petitioners , the Judicial Workers Union, which listed several grievous violations and infractions against the Chief judge. The workers picketed the Chief Judge’s office, setting off a chain reaction. According to Gbenga Eludire, chairman of the union, the protest was to express dissatisfaction with Oyebola Ojo, the Chief Judge, and how the judicial affairs in the state are being handled.

The protesters raised placards with inscriptions such as “judiciary staff deserves better”, “we are tired of oppression and stagnation”, “unlawful suspension of judiciary staff without recourse to Judicial Service Commission is barbaric”, among others.

Speaking with journalists, Eludire accused Ojo of suspending workers without following due process, owing allowances and refusing to send workers for statutory training. “Before now, we have adopted several approaches to at least mend the situation for the chief judge to do the needful. But we are left with no other option than to picket her office so that we can amplify our voices for the world to hear about what we are going through as workers in the temple of justice.

One of the reasons why we are here today to picket the office of the CJ is that some of our members have been suspended for more than three years, running to about 59 months now. Why should that be? Even without any recourse to the Judicial Service Commission. Ordinarily, the rule says that for any senior officer to be sanctioned or to be punished, such an officer must pass through an investigation by the Judicial Service Commission. But in our own case, it was a unilateral decision of the CJ and it is against the ethics of our job and it is even against the employer and employee bargaining system.

“Many of these people were arraigned before the chief magistrate court and they were vindicated, but I must tell you even after that, the CJ insisted that her will must be done and we don’t know to what extent. Judiciary staff are not slaves, we are even called the engine room of the court. How practicable is this? We need to check the excesses of our honourable CJ and that is why we have come out.

“Besides that, we realise there are some other benefits that were to be accorded to judiciary workers but up till now we have not seen anything. We have consulted and we have even approached our CJ on several occasions to plead on behalf of our members because it is our duty to safeguard and protect the interests of all our members. They are all financial members and we must have their interest. We have done this on several occasions discussing with our CJ but it appeared she is not ready to recognise or even reckon with what we are demanding from her”, the Union leader narrated

Much more serious is the resolution of the assembly on the report of its judicial committee. It was quite damning on the person of the Chief Judge: “That the Executive Governor of Our State being the Chief Executive and the father of all should with immediate effect ensure that the perpetual economic torture being experienced by the said five staff of High Court be brought to an end now. Thus, as a measure to rehabilitate them economically, the Governor is to ensure that each and every one of them begins to receive his or her salary as from this November, 2023 even if it requires that the State Government will immediately transfer their services from High Court to Customary Court of Appeal or any other Agency of the Government in order to bring this economic torture to an immediate end.

“In addition to above and in view of the fact that the salaries of three out of the five staff have been diverted for 57 months and the remaining two staff for 46 months at the instance of the Hon. Chief Judge, the House urges the Governor with immediate effect to assist these five staff by directing the payment of all or part of their salaries for the concerned months, pending the conclusion of the investigation of the NJC; that this House which uncovered all these facts should equally cause the Honourable Speaker to write a Petition to NJC on all the misconducts of the Honourable Chief Judge.

“That in view of the facts that some Associations and purported Civil Organisations are deliberately playing politics with this grave matter; this Honourable House has specifically resolved that any Organisation that is interested in having its findings, reports and the said petitions is free to apply for certified true copies of the reports including all the documents obtained in the course of the Committee’s sittings;  that the State Government should with immediate effect stop the consultant in charge of e-affidavit at the State High Court, and take further steps to see that all revenues being generated in respect of e-affidavit go directly to the account of the State Government.

“That in view of the fact that an effective Library is vital to effective administration of justice and in view of the fact that Honourable Chief Judge has abandoned purchase of law reports/books (except newspapers) into the Library since 2015 notwithstanding that the State Government is making available the sum of N1 million for  the purchase of books in the High Court monthly running cost, the State Government is hereby advised to immediately take steps to stock the Library and upgrade its facilities pending the investigation, by the National Judicial Council, of the allegation of diversion of Library funds by the Honourable Chief Judge.

“That in view of the finding of fact that the Honourable Chief Judge is not expending the four million naira monthly security cost being provided by the State Government on the security of the High court, the House advised that the State Government should suspend forthwith the payment of the said sum of #4m as monthly security cost to the High Court pending the conclusion of investigation by the National Judicial Council. However, the State Government shall do everything within its powers to provide adequate security for the High Court in the State.

"That the sum of #3.6m monthly which the High Court of Justice under the watch of the Chief Judge is collecting for uniforms and clothing is obviously not being expended on any uniforms and clothing, hence, the State Government is hereby advised to suspend it forthwith pending the conclusion of investigation by the National Judicial Council”, the report concluded.

At a time the House was submitting its report to the Governor, the national body of judicial workers entered the fray, chiding its state chapter for protesting against the Chief Judge, assuming the labour action was politically motivated. On visiting Osun, the national body was rattled with the weight of evidence submitted by its members against the Chief Judge. At the end of a 48 hour visitation, the national body sustained the action of the state chapter, backing the union demands. JUSUN national body even extended the tenure of the local exco to pursue industrial action.

The lone body external to all these rigmarole is the National Judicial Council, the only body with constitutional mandate to try a top judicial officer. The NJC has a tough case at hand. Stripped of any political colouration, there are petitions from judicial workers against a Chief Judge they accused of maltreating and economically strangulating them. This is a rare form of petition -it is judicial versus judicial team.

The NJC is thus likely to be in a tight corner. The petitions cannot be thrown away or ignored on whatever ground. The reason-the petitions had to do with the engine room of the judiciary, the judicial workers. Secondly, the evidence is too weighty and documented to be ignored. Inaction on the petitions by the NJC may actually imply permanent shut down of judiciary in the state considering the depth of the alleged rot and complete lack of support for the CJ within the rank and file of the state judiciary.
