Apparently worried and concerned about the incessant rate of dog bites in the society in recent times,Osun state government has frowned at the development with a declaration that , henceforth,dog owners will face necessary disciplinary action in line with the dictates of the law if any of their dogs is found culpable. 

Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Mr Tola Faseru  sounded this  note of warning to all dog breeders and owners including veterinary outfits in the State.


Honourable Faseru gave the warnings during  a meeting held with the dog breeders, owners and veterinarian 

at the Conference Hall of the Ministry of Agriculture and food Security, State Secretariat, Abere. 


The Commissioner particularly frowned at the rate at which unlicensed dogs roam about  the streets  aimlessly .


He further explained that it is now compulsory for all veterinary outfits to ensure that they are  registered with the State government just as he directed that  all dogs must get anti- rabies vaccination certificate which must be  duly signed by a certified veterinarian.


Mr Faseru, on behalf of Osun state governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke used the opportunity to extend a   condolence message to the family of a dog bite  victim in Hallelujah Estate Area, Osogbo, where two dogs killed a five month old baby and injured  its mother .


In their separate remarks, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Agriculture and OSADEC, Hon. Akanfe Atidade and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs Adegbemisola Fayoyin enjoined dog owners and breeders to respect the feelings  of other people in the society who do not love dogs. 


While speaking, the Director, Department of Veterinary Services of the Ministry, Dr (Mrs) Olatokun appreciated dog owners and breeders for honouring the Ministry's invitation, adding that  anti-rabies vaccines are in all government veterinary clinics in Osun state and can be obtained free of charge. 


In their separate reactions,  Dr. (Mrs )Aogo Serah, Dr. Wintope Olabisi and Miss Malcolm Fatimah among other participants promised to act in line with the directive of the state government.
